Mission accomplished. After 3 days of racing we made it on the 1st place in class CSA 1 of the Heineken regatta in St. Maarten. Lupa of London’s first regatta victory. But let’s start from the beginning.
After two long training days the first race on Friday was clockwise around the island of St. Maarten. Starting in Simpson Bay and finishing in Phillipsburg. The wind was very light with 8-10 knots, but we had a good start and after that it was very obviously that our biggest opponent was a boat named Blackbird. The race distance was 39nm and after nearly 5 hrs racing we became 2nd with a 2 minute lag on Blackbird. The fight was on.
The race on day two was a bit shorter with 34 nm. The wind a bit stronger with up to 12 knots. With a start in Simpson Bay, off to Table rock nearby St. Barth’s back to the North top of St. Maarten, a downwind leg to a rock of Anguilla and finishing in Marigot Bay St. Maarten. We did great on this day and became 1st with 1 Mminute in advance off Blackbird.
After that we all were on fire, we went early to bed to be prepared for the last day, because we all wanted to win this regatta.
The race course on day 3 was a start in Marigot and finishing in Simpson Bay with some other legs, so in total 29 nm. The forecast looked perfect for us with wind up to 20 knots, thats what Lupa like.
And what should I say, the crew did very well and the tactician had a good plan how to win this. Jeremy the owner and driver was very excited when we passed the finish line with an advance of 1:30 minute on Blackbird.
The hole crew (18 people) were so happy to make this first ever win happen for Jeremy. Good Job guys.
